Harvest of Light
The darkness and shadows of 2020 have caused a new strain of hope in our hearts. I have seen the smiles of strangers eyes, a deeper understanding and compassion as we all undergo various forms of loss on personal, local and global levels. This poem, written in the fall seems ever relevant to Advent season. Advent means “coming” in Latin. What is coming? What lies ahead?
As a girl named Hope, Christmas has always brought an expectation to my heart. The lyric of Oh Holy Night , “A thrill of Hope, the weary world rejoices”, strikes a chord this year. As our weary bodies, souls and minds wake up this Christmas, may we rejoice in a coming Light- the hope of a savior and the daily rebirth of grace.
This video is created for Hope Center’s Christmas eve service: A place I have called home for many years and honored to participate in the welcoming and wonder of Christ this 2020 Christmas.
O Holy Night!
The stars are brightly shining
It is the night of the dear Savior's birth!
Long lay the world in sin and error pining
Till he appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary soul rejoices
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn!
Truly He taught us to love one another
His law is love and His gospel is peace
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother
And in His name all oppression shall cease
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name
